Top 10 Places to Visit Near Agadir by Rental Car (2026)
Agadir's beach is great. But the real magic of southern Morocco is what's around it — surf villages, mountain valleys, UNESCO ports, ancient walled cities, dramatic sea arches. With a rental car you reach all of them in under 3 hours. Here are the 10 best.
1. Taghazout — 20 min, 19 km
Surf town, café culture, sunset cliffs. Drive up the coastal road early, surf or learn to, eat at one of the cliff cafés, drive back at golden hour. Perfect first day.
2. Paradise Valley — 1 hour, 60 km
Palm-fringed gorge with natural pools you can swim in. Drive inland from Aourir, park at the trail entrance, walk 30 minutes to the pools. Pack a picnic.
3. Essaouira — 2h 30, 175 km
UNESCO-listed walled port. Famously windy, famously blue. Day trip is doable; overnight is better. Park outside Bab Doukkala. See full guide →
4. Imouzzer Ida Outanane Waterfalls — 1h 30, 60 km
Mountain village with seasonal waterfalls (best Feb-May). The drive itself is the attraction — switchbacks through Berber valleys.
5. Tiznit — 1h 30, 90 km
Walled city famous for silver jewelry. The medina is small, walkable, real (not touristy). Bargain for silver in the souk.
6. Massa National Park — 1 hour, 50 km
Birdwatching reserve with flamingos, ibis, river estuary, empty beaches. Quiet, off-trail Morocco.
7. Taroudant — 1h 30, 80 km
"Grandmother of Marrakech" — fully walled, no tourist crowds. Drive the ramparts at sunset. Stay overnight in a riad.
8. Sidi Ifni — 2 hours, 165 km
Spanish-colonial Atlantic town with art deco architecture, fishing port and a wild surf beach. Underrated.
9. Legzira Beach — 2h 15, 175 km
Famous for its dramatic red sandstone arches over the sea. The bigger arch collapsed in 2016, but two remain — still spectacular at sunset.
10. Anti-Atlas Mountains (Tafraoute) — 3 hours, 175 km
Pink granite mountains, blue-painted rocks (the "Painted Rocks" art installation), Berber villages. SUV recommended for some side roads.
Bonus: Marrakech — 2h 30, 250 km
Big day trip but doable. Better as overnight. Full Marrakech road trip guide →
